The 200-acre campus of Hillsdale College is located in the city of Hillsdale (population 8300) in southern Michigan. The area is rural in character and its lakes, rivers and nature areas offer plenty to outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. The Grewcock Student Union, a 53,000-square-foot facility opened in January of 2008 is the major hub of student activity on campus.The cities of Toledo and Detroit and the huge college towns of East Lansing and Ann Arbor are all within a 90-minute drive.   The College offers a shuttle service from Detroit and Toledo airports.

Conservative in outlook, Hillsdale College has bright and hard-working students as well as caring professors. The core requirements include two courses in the Great Books and one about the U.S. Constitution. Hillsdale is popularly known for its refusal to accept federal funds, stating that “our country's greatness is the result not of government benevolence but rather of individual initiative and enterprise.” The College is generous with merit and need based aid. Greek life: 25% of the men and 45% of the woman. Freshmen and sophomores must live on-campus.  Housing guaranteed for all four years.

The Rhodes College campus is rated as one of the most beautiful in the country, with gothic-style buildings on 100 acres in a great part of Memphis. Academics are rigorous, the core curriculum is solid, and the faculty has close relationships with students. Popular majors: Biology, History, Business and English. The Honor System guides student conduct. Students are passionate about community service.  Greek life is big; students report no social divide because the Greek system is non-residential. A Rhodes tradition is that faculty serve pancakes to students during final exams.  Applying on-line is free.

The campus of Connecticut College is on a hilltop with views of the ocean in Long Island Sound.  The small city of New London is about a mile away.  The School has a Honor Code, one benefit being unproctored exams. Connecticut College incorporates an international dimension into all majors and is known for its study abroad programs.  Top-notch academics. Popular majors: Economics, Biological Sciences and English but the college is also strong in theater and dance.  Camelympics a two-day competition among residence halls is a fun tradition.  No fraternities.

 One of the best small liberal arts colleges in the West, Whitman’s 77-acre campus is located a few blocks from downtown Walla Walla,  a city with a population of over 30,000.   According to the college web site, “Whitman is the premier liberal arts college that combines academic excellence with an unpretentious Northwest culture and an engaging community.” Whitman offers 45 majors and a number of combined advanced degree programs with other major universities, including education, engineering, oceanography, forestry and environmental management, and law.  All students must pass a comprehensive oral exam in their major in order to graduate. A grant program provides $2100 stipends for students to participate in unpaid summer internships.  The campus is far from any major city but on-campus activities abound. Approximately 39% of the men are members of fraternities; 30% of the women are members of sororities.  Students report that their is no social division between Greeks and non-Greeks. The campus is a short drive from a Regional Airport with two flights a day to Seattle. Students must live on campus the first two years.  In 2009-10, out of 359 degrees awarded, the six most-popular were in:  Social Sciences (87), Biological Sciences (45), Visual and Performing Arts (37), English (29), Physical Sciences (28) and  Psychology(28). College Prowler, the student review web site, gives Whitman’s Campus Dining a grade of B+, Campus Housing a grade of B but Diversity a grade of C+

Muhlenberg's 81-acre campus is located in a residential neighborhood in the city of Allentown, about an one hour drive north of Philadelphia and nearly two hours west of New York City. The campus includes numerous buildings with distinctive red doors in traditional European/Protestant style that symbolizes Welcome.  The College prides itself on its friendly community and accessible faculty. Muhlenberg offers 40 majors and is strong in business, pre-med and pre-law as well as in the performing arts.  In 2009-10, out of 613 degrees awarded, the six most-popular were in: Business (160), Visual and Performing Arts (96), Psychology(73), Biology (71), Social Sciences (57), and Speech Communication and Rhetoric (51). Clark University’s “tree-lined, 50-acre campus, which features both distinguished ivy-covered buildings and high-quality modern facilities” is in Worcester, MA (pronounced woos' ter), a city of over 175,000 about an hour west of Boston.  The University considers itself both a liberal arts college and a research university.  It offers 32 undergraduate majors, with the most popular being Psychology, Political Science and Business Management.  The school has one of the nation’s top geography programs. Clark University offers an accelerated five-year Bachelor’s/Master’s program with the fifth-year tuition free if the student has a high GPA during undergraduate years two, three and four.  The Model UN team at the school is one of the best in the country.  Clark does not have any sororities or fraternities and requires students to live on-campus during the first two-years. Seventy-six percent of Clark students live on campus.The urban campus gives some students concerns about security but others report that it is not a problem. Thirty-five percent of the undergraduates are from Massachusetts.  College Prowler, the student review web site, gives Clark’s Campus Dining a grade of C-, Campus Housing a grade of  B and Diversity a grade of B.
